The 1882-M Standard Bust was struck withthe typical die design used by the Melbourne Mint during the final run of the Young Head series, distinguished by a crenulatedor toothed rim reversethough the 1882 Melbourne is also known struck with a truncated bust.
While overall this is the more common of the two types, in high grades the gap closes in with both examples being of roughly equal scarcity in mint state. The 1882 Melbourne is one of the most common types in the series particularly if sought in high grades with a hoard surfacing in Ballarat containing approximately 30 high grade examples, many of which would grade at the mint state level.
