The 1943 Florin is a relatively easy to acquire date in the George VI Florin series. The type was struck with a mintage of 12,762,000 which is quite typical for the series. The mintage for the year was substantially increased due to a coin shortage caused by increased war production and the arrival of additional allied troops in Australia.

The shortage had begun to cause substantial problems for traders and local mints were pushed to their maximum productive capacities. Despite this, the mintage s were insufficient so the United States was commissioned to produce six million additional Florins in 1942, and eleven million in 1943 and 1944. These US coins were struck at the San Francisco mint with the 'S' mint-mark over the reverse date.
