In 1915 the Australian Commonwealth Shilling was produced at both the Royal Mint in London and the private Mint of Heaton & Sons in Birmingham. It was necessary to employ Heaton & Sons as the Royal Mint was temporarily refocused on the production of military materials for the war effort. The low mintage of the 1915 variety has made it scarce and quite valuable across all grades. Population reports by PCGS show less than a dozen mint-state examples with the highest graded being MS65. Collectors seeking a mint-state example must be willing to spend substantial funds.
