The 1959 proof threepence is one of the easier commercial proof threepence to obtain especially if sought in top grades with two PR68 examples having been certified by PCGS so far (PCGS Population Report, 2010) . This is primarily due to its flawless strike allowing the top grades, and its small size allowing it to avoid surface marking. The piece is characterized by a glossy, dull mirror finish with even cartwheel lustre , a well centered strike and a thick rim, while the business strikehas a bright, brilliant finish making them very easy to tell apart. It is quite often found in a visually flawless state, unlike other proofs of other years which tend to either have toning or have been cleaned but serves no benefit over the 1963 proof threepence as a type coin due to the affordability of the 1963.
